About Me

Go to www.union-berlin.com for latest news on Union.

I moved to Berlin in the summer of 2010 after spending my 30th birthday here celebrating my coming of age and the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall in late 2009. My girlfriend and I had been planning to take some time off work and do something, we just had not worked out quite what that 'something' was going to be - after a weekend in Berlin we knew the city was for us. Affordable rents, cheap food and alcohol and a new language to learn meant that Berlin ticked all of our boxes.

When living in a new city you need to nail your colours to the mast quickly. I'd chosen to go and watch Union rather than Hertha before I arrived in Berlin. East rather than west. Red rather than blue. Standing rather than seated. Union appeared to have much more in common with my hometown club, Sunderland AFC, so it was a no brainer.

I hope you enjoy my blog about my FC Union Berlin adventure as I take in the 2012/13 season.
